Canadian superstar Tate McRae today releases her new single ‘what would you do?’ It is the next taste of her debut album i used to think i could fly which will be released on May 27.

The song is a glorious kiss off to a former lover with McRae choosing to flip the script and exact revenge by using the same tactics used against her. “We’ll make plans and I won’t show up / I won’t listen, I’ll interrupt / When your birthday comes won’t answer ya, cause so what?” she sings.

Musically the song mixes rock and pop, with quieter, guitar heavy verses giving way to an upbeat, driving chorus that compels you to move.

The song was co-written by McRae with singer Charlie Puth plus Blake Slatkin (Lil Nas X, Kid Laroi) and Alexander 23 (Olivia Rodrigo, Selena Gomez). Production duties were also handled by Slatkin, Glantz and Puth.

The song is the fourth sneak peek into McRae’s debut album i used to think i could fly after previous singles ‘feel like shit’, ‘she’s all i wanna be’ and ‘chaotic’. The album, out on May 27, features contributions from some of the biggest names in pop including Charlie Puth, Finneas and Greg Kurstin and is destined to be one of the great albums of 2022.

McRae will also be touring Australia for the first time ever in July this year with tickets selling out in minutes.
