Paige releases new single 'tragedy'
Aotearoa / New Zealand artist Paige has released her new single, ‘tragedy’, the third single from her upcoming EP paigesspace.
Created by Paige with Glenn Hopper and Jaylee Kwan, ‘tragedy’ is a gorgeous, stripped back acoustic guitar pop track with Paige’s voice lending a delicacy and intimacy to the song, bringing its emotions to life. She sings of a relationship that is gradually becoming one sided, while questioning her own state of mind. ‘is it a tragedy? / I need you more than you need me’
“This song is about holding on through a one-sided relationship when you feel the other person letting go.,” Paige says. “Although there’s so many reasons to leave, you’d rather put up with the bad stuff and keep them in your life than be without them.”
‘tragedy’ follows last months’ ‘no hoping’, which with its pared back guitar pop sound follows a similar sonic route as ‘tragedy’, and May’s ‘twenties’, an upbeat, indie pop gem, that was Paige’s first new music in a year.
All three songs will appear on her new EP paigesspace which is due for release later this year. The name of the EP comes from the handle Paige has used on social media ever since her music starting attracting a fanbase in 2017, and the songs will continue to build on her artistry creating cathartic spaces for both herself and her fans through unfiltered honest lyrics.
The music video for ‘tragedy’, which was filmed on a replica set of Paige’s childhood bedroom, will be released on 19 September, and in October she will travel to Seoul, South Korea to perform in the 2025 Zandari Festa music festival.
Paige is one of New Zealand’s most engaging artists with almost impossibly warm, connective music teamed with honest storytelling that draws you right into her world, which you can then project your own stories onto. paigesspace will be the next compelling chapter in her music career and an end of year highlight.
‘tragedy’ is out now via Sony Music. You can download and stream here.
