Mila Nile launches debut EP 'Do You Remember That?'

Sydney based rising independent pop artist Mila Nile today releases her debut EP Do You Remember That?

Swedish-born Nile has been releasing music since 2018 and over the last few years has made impressive growth as an artist and proven she has the ability to create seriously good pop music that can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the business.

The five tracks on Do You Remember That? represent Nile’s growth from adolescence into adulthood and was in part inspired by the forced introspection of the past 18 months. “Like most people, I’ve spent more of the past year thinking about the life I’ve lived than actually living it,” she says. “That’s definitely reflected in this collection”.

Three of her previous singles are included on the collection, alongside two new tracks, all written by Nile and her real-life partner Simon Brock and produced by HVTCH. Last year’s single ‘Break To My Heart To The Beat’, one of Women In Pop’s Top 50 tracks of 2020, kicks off the EP and its brooding 1980s inspired beats, synths and sublime melodies are still as fresh and delicious as ever. January’s ‘Too Much Like Love’ is a lush, shimmering ballad about desperately trying to not fall in love when you are actually falling in love while March’s ‘Don’t Need Your Love’ is a funk-disco-house infused self-empowerment anthem that virtually glistens with feel-good vibes.

The first of the new tracks, and also Nile’s latest single, is ‘Old School Calling’, an delightful R&B influenced jam that celebrates friendships that may be new but feel like they have been around for years. The chorus solidifies the friendship theme, featuring vocals from some of Nile’s closest friends recorded from their homes around the world.

‘Daughter’ is the second new track and is the most poignant song on the EP. Nile’s first foray into stripped back, acoustic ballads it examines the brutal reality of being an expat in Australian unable to return home to spend time with family and loved ones. A plea for the opportunity to return to the simplicity of being close to family, Nile says the song explores the paradox of how after getting everything you want, you realise it isn’t all it is cracked up to be. It’s a truly gorgeous track and showcases Nile at her very best - beautifully emotive voice, immersive production and music that really moves you.

Nile never fails to impress and this debut collection is a joy to behold. 2021 will continue to see many debut EP released, but few will feel as warm, assured and intriguing as Do You Remember That?

Do You Remember That? is out now. You can download on iTunes and stream on Apple Music, Spotify and Soundcloud.

Mila Nile will be holding her EP launch party at Oxford Arts Factory Gallery Bar in Sydney on October 1. Tickets are on sale now here.
