Naarm/Melbourne singer-songwriter-producer-engineer m8riarchy has been releasing her delicious electro-synth pop since 2020. Alongside her solo work, her vocals also feature on the latest Shouse single ‘Won’t Forget You’ and she has also toured across Australia with the band.

At the end of June she released the single ‘Body’. Co-written and co-produced with Matthew Hadley, the song is a heady, electropop dancefloor anthem that slides between minimalist, experimental verses and a soaring, euphoric, hands in the air chorus. Carrying an empowering body and sex-positive message, it is a call to not only let yourself loose on the dancefloor but also to embrace your vulnerabilities and lose inhibitions.

“‘Body’ is a sex-positive dancefloor banger that explores pleasure and connection,” she says. “I wanted to create a euphoric symphony that invites listeners to celebrate the joys of sensuality, sexuality, playfulness and self-expression.”

m8riarchy also reveals it is a track that was almost never released. “I wrote ‘Body’ ten years ago and struggled with the production to the point where I had given up on ever releasing it,” she explains. “Matt expressed interest in collaborating and, given our similar tastes in dance music, it worked out perfectly for us to bring ‘Body’ to life together.”

At the forefront of promoting women in the Australian music industry, both for her fans through her music, and fellow musicians through her art, m8riarchy is an increasingly important voice in music. With a warm, expressive voice and an ability to create addictive melodies that instantly win you over, she is an artist you will want to have on repeat.

To celebrate the release of ‘Body’ m8riarchy shared with Women In Pop her top 5 favourite female/non-binary Australian vocalists.
