Australian superstar Jessica Mauboy today drops her new single, ‘Forget You’. It comes ahead of the release of her fifth studio album Yours Forever, out on February 9.

Written by Mauboy with Sam De Jong and Grace Pitts ‘Forget You’ is an empowering anthem that encourages listeners to move forward with strength and confidence, no matter their situation. “Life is good /Taking back all that you took…don’t make me play your games cause I’m no longer the same” she sings. Musically, it is a glorious funky slice of pop infused with soul and hints of R&B and electronica with a delicious vocal from Mauboy.

“‘Forget You’ is about taking back what’s yours - your inner strength and sass” says Mauboy. “We crafted a musical narrative that speaks to independence and the joy of embracing life. Whether it's a bad boss, a breakup or waking up from a nightmare, some things in life can get the better of you. This song is about knowing that you can be strong and say a big 'Forget You' to those things holding you back.”

On the creative process behind the song, Mauboy says “After playing around with melodies on the organ, the song really found its stride when we got the lyrics to the opening verse down - 'Sunshiny days/ Sweetest taste ever / Breaking away / watch my escape forever'. We wanted to set the scene of this perfect holiday, when you leave everything behind, and cruise along to the bouncing bass line. It felt cool and swaggy. Sam came up with ‘Forget You’ and then I just had to add that growl to the vocal. The rest followed easily and before we knew it, we couldn't stop chanting 'Forget You' around the studio.”

Also out today is the music video for ‘Forget You’, directed by Lawrence Lim, which sees Mauboy living the day from hell where nothing goes right, all overseen by her dog Leo.

“Together with Lawrence, we came up with a concept that included a bit of comedy, and I loved acting out the different scenes of how sometimes, life gives you lemons, but there’s a way of finding the joy in life and making lemonade,” she says. “We wanted to create relatable scenarios as ‘Forget You’ is just that, a song that anyone can take and apply to their own story and use as an uplifting anthem to get through a tough time. It goes without saying that I think my co-star in the video is my favourite yet and is destined for great things. Leo’s debut acting role is sure to land him further opportunities and no doubt his calendar will fill up fast with gigs and appearances!”

‘Forget You’ is lifted from Mauboy’s fifth studio album Yours Forever, released on February 9. It is her first album since 2019’s chart topping and twice ARIA Award nominated Hilda. Featuring ten new songs alongside the four singles already released - ‘Forget You’, ‘Never Giving Up’, ‘Flashback’ and 2023 ARIA Award nominated ‘Give You Love’ featuring Jason Derulo - the album reflects a journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

Yours Forever is me at my truest self, comfortable in my skin, not comparing myself or trying to be someone or something that anyone expects me to be,” Mauboy says. “When you strip it all back, musically it’s beautiful melodies, storytelling lyrics, rhythms that connect with the soul, and it has a depth that I’ve never gone to or shared before.”

To celebrate the release of Yours Forever, Mauboy will embark on a nationwide tour, kicking off on country Victoria on March 12 before wrapping up in Nowra on May 4.

After almost 20 years at the top of the Australian music scene, Mauboy is one of her country’s greatest talents. From touring with Beyoncé to performing for Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama, and representing Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest, her career has been monumental, and with the release of Yours Forever her music enters a new chapter, making us all fall in love with her just that little bit more.
