Blusher kick off 2024 with the release of new single 'Rave Angel'

Australian electro-synth-pop trio Blusher (Miranda Ward, Lauren Coutts and Jade Ingvarson-Favretto) have returned with their new single ‘Rave Angel’, their first new music since the release of their debut EP Should We Go Dance? in July last year.

Blusher proved with their first EP that they are experts at creating addictive electro-synth pop, full of glistening beats and gorgeous melodies, with the best of the 1980s sounds of the genre while remaining completely modern, and also full of warmth and heart. ‘Rave Angel’ is no exception, and it’s a glorious slice of pop music, always bringing in a new sonic twist to keep you hooked, from a stop-start glitchy beat through to mixing up vocals between chanty, distorted and gorgeously feather soft.

Lyrically it speaks of having a terrible night out, despite your best efforts, and the desire to ‘save’ the night however you can. It was inspired by a real night out in Los Angeles.

“While we were on a writing trip in LA, there was a night we went out so determined to have a big dance, but everywhere we went the DJs were terrible,” Blusher says. “Miranda’s hype-up playlist in the Uber outmatched them all. A few clubs and an In-N-Out pitstop later, we managed to sneak into a secret Charli XCX and AG Cook DJ set and the night completely turned around.”

”The next day, we were inspired to write about the fact that it all could have ended at the In-N-Out burger, if we hadn’t convinced each other to push on,” they continue. “‘Rave Angel’, a phrase we coined while describing how Charli looked behind the decks that night, is the song you play to your friend in the Uber that convinces them to stay out and see what unfolds. We wrote the song in a highly caffeinated state with co-producer Pink Slip, who did an amazing job of reflecting our chaotic confidence in the production.”

After releasing their first single ‘Softly Spoken’ in 2022, Blusher have created a major buzz with their music. In 2023, they performed at The Great Escape UK and SXSW Sydney, and also supported international stars Aurora and Tove Lo on their Australian tours. With ‘Rave Angel’ kicking off their 2024 in major style, expect this year to bring even more incredible moments from Blusher.

‘Rave Angel’ is out now now via Atlantic Records/Warner Music Australia. You can buy and stream here.
