Jess Ball launches new single and video 'Messed Up'

Australian up and coming pop singer Jess Ball has returned with the new single and video ‘Messed Up’, her fourth solo release.

The track is a moody electronic pop track with a jittery beat, disjointed but sublime melodies and a sultry vocal performance from Ball. Lyrically the song is about unrequited love but with more than a hint of anger behind it, which is evidenced by the opening shots of the video which sees Ball step out of a car with heart emblazoned white high heel boots - and a sledgehammer.

"I wrote ‘Messed Up’ about being driven insane by the desire for something or someone you simply cannot have,” Ball says. “The song basically preaches the opposite of ‘out of sight out of mind’ and instead draws on how being denied of something/someone makes you obsess over it/them even more. ‘Messed Up’ exploits this obsession, for how irrational and all-consuming it can become. You may not have even been interested in the first place, but when something/someone is no longer an option for you, it suddenly becomes all the more appealing.”

‘Messed Up’ follows the March release ‘Spent’. First coming to attention in 2020, Ball has been the featured vocalist on a string of EDM releases by artists such as EDX and NERVO which have gathered streams in the tens of millions. Her first solo release ‘Upside Down’ was released just last year and she is quickly proving she is one of the most exciting new talents in the Australian dance-pop world. An artist to watch and to have on your playlist immediately - on repeat.

‘Messed Up’ is out now via TMRW Music. You can download and stream here.
