Electronic artist Nyxen releases new single 'Pxnk' and announces debut album will be released July 1

Australian electronic artist Nyxen today releases her new single ‘Pxnk’ alongside the news that her debut album of the same name will be released in July 1.

The new single is possibly the most perfect slice of electro-synth-pop you can imagine. A driving beat, Nyxen’s dreamy, multi-layered vocals plus the synths that lend a contradictory darkness and joy to the song plus a throwback to classic 1980s pop.

“Playing around with my Prophet, I got into a groove with an arp sound, which eventually became the first six seconds of ‘Pxnk’ as you hear it now,” Nyxen says of creating the song. “I immediately associated the sound with scores by John Carpenter, Daft Punk, Vangelis and Don Davis, visualising cyberpunk styled scenes is not uncommon for me (big sci-fi fan). I asked Miranda Ward to collaborate with me writing the lyrics, mixed the song with my good friend Frank Xavier in his Sydney studio with Sameer Sengupta on mastering duties. ‘Pxnk’ is a synth packed reflection of disconnection from things you once knew and the people that tether you back”.

Nyxen will release her debut album, also called Pxnk , on July 1. The title track will join her previous single releases, 2020’s electro-trance ‘Nightmare’ and 2021’s guitar driven ‘Tunnels’. It was the creation of ‘Pxnk’, Nyxen reveals, that led to the creation of the album.

“The direction of the album all started with ‘Pxnk’,” she says. “I had a name, a sound, and a vision for the body of work I wanted to put forward and it feels very fitting to guide the listener into the album the way I was guided into writing it. It feels amazing to officially announce the album release date and to put the title track ‘Pxnk’ into the world”.

Since first releasing music in 2015, Nyxen has built up a strong reputation and fanbase as one of Australia’s premier electronic artists. Equally impressive behind the decks or on stage she has performed at some of Australia and New Zealand’s biggest festivals, including Field Day, Splendour in the Grass, Mardi Gras NZ and Bay Dreams NZ. She kicks it off ‘Pxnk’ officially tonight with the single launch at Waywards in Sydney, and her debut album is set to be one of the highlights of the year.

‘Pxnk’ is out now BMG/Tank Top Records. You can download and stream here.
