AKOSIA releases new single 'Help Me' and announces debut EP 'Black Diamond' will be released November 18

Ghanian-born, Melbourne rising star AKOSIA has released her new single ‘Help Me’ and reveals her debut EP Black Diamond will land on November 18.
Following up the disco-tinged ‘Bang Bang’ and the R&B ‘Go’, ‘Help Me’ sees AKOSIA open her heart and soul on a song that deals with immense personal pain. Set against a shuffling electronic beat and an R&B drenched soundscape, AKOSIA’s gentle yet powerful vocals encase the pain in an embracing warmth.
“‘Help Me’ is a song I wrote to process the death of my father,” she says. “It was such a traumatic time and I needed a place for all of the pain to go so I wrapped it up tightly in this song. Sometimes when I write, I have a way of tapping into the divine to give me the encouraging words I need to hear.”
After first releasing music in 2019, AKOSIA’a musical journey thus far culminates on November 18 with the release of her debut EP Black Diamond. Featuring five new tracks alongside ‘Help Me’ and ‘Bang Bang’, the EP explores multiple genres without being tied to a single sound. ‘The Weekend’ melds afro-beats with electronic dance beats, ‘Dumbstruck’ is a stripped back, experimental electro-R&B track whilst ‘Simplicity’ is a lush, R&B dream of a song.
“This body of work is about embracing every facet that is me. It is about the duality that is ever present and floats underneath my skin,” she says. “It is about spirituality, sensuality and sorrow. It is about coming into myself without any fear artistically and also in my personal life. I view my growth like a double helix, the lessons are the same, they just get more complex over time, and if we step back we can see the Black Diamond that is there, shimmering within us.”
