Julia Stone releases new single 'Unreal'

Australia’s Julia Stone today releases the remarkable new single ‘Unreal’, her second release of 2020 after the release of ‘Break’ in July which marked her return to solo work after many years of being part of the duo Angus & Julia Stone.

‘Unreal’ continues Stone’s break away from her folk roots, started with ‘Break’, and takes her sound further into the electro-synth realm. An at times brooding song, both jarring and warm, with disjointed vocals against a multi-layered synth backdrop, it is a truly unique pop song that draws you right into Stone’s world and is more of an experience that a song. “It’s about the feeling of somebody making you feel like you can never quite be real and be yourself,” Stone explains. ‘Unreal’, along with ‘Break’ are part of a larger body of work still to come from Stone.

Also debuting today is the release of the music video for ‘Unreal’, starring Stone and Damon Herriman. Directed by Bonnie Moir, the video depicts a heart-wrenching, futuristic, Hollywood-esque plotline of love, loss and memories. Stone is repeatedly brought back to life in clone form as her love interest fails to let go of his loss. 

Looking ahead, Stone announces today she will be performing two live, intimate shows at The Factory Theatre in Sydney on 6th and 7th November. “With the upcoming concert series, I wanted to take part in the healing of hearts in these troubling and uncertain times,” Stone explains. “Live music will always bring people together, celebrate our humanity and nurture our bond. Music heals as much as it excites, and I want to do all I can to re-establish our connection to one another. I’m beyond excited to play these shows in my hometown.” Tickets are sale for the shows here.
