Julia Stone has released the new single ‘Fire In Me’, the fifth single from her upcoming third solo studio album Sixty Summers due for release on April 30.

‘Fire In Me’ is a stomping, glam rock track which sonic throwbacks to the 1970s, interspersed with a “Bond-like” string section. The lyrics are an empowering, call to action - ‘come on, light the fire in me’ - that reminds us all that you can do, or be, anything that you set your mind to.

“For me, ‘Fire In Me’ was about creating a feeling of pure energy,” Stone says of the song. “I love the feeling when the music sounds like what the lyrics mean.”

Creating the song was a truly international affair, with recording sessions taking place in Sydney, New York, Los Angeles (at St Vincent’s studio) and Melbourne. In many ways it reflects the journey of the Sixty Summers album which was created sporadically from 2015-2019, with Stone recording 30 demos as she sought to forge a new pop identity, abandoning her folk and indie past. With a breathtaking scope of soundscapes, the singles from the album so far have ranged from the cool, moody electropop of ‘Unreal’, the vibrant, world music sounds of ‘Break’ and the lush ballad ‘We Have All’ and the album promises even more diverse sounds and genre bending. Sixty Summers is set to be a musical triumph on its release on April 30 and promises to be one of the highlights of 2021, with Stone proving she is one of the most talented and versatile performers in Australia today.
