2020 has proven to be one of the most successful years in the career of New Zealand’s BENEE. She scored a massive global hit with the single ‘Supalonely’ which went top 10 all over the world, including peaking at number 6 in Australia, plus number 18 in the UK and even cracked the US top 40. To date it has scored close to 440 million streams on Spotify alone.

In August she released the single ‘Snail’ and today she launches the music video for the song, directed by Anita Fontaine. Portraying a fantastically surreal world, it features BENEE living in a house - shaped as her head - with her snail friends and later riding through a psychedelic, stormy landscape with giant mushrooms. BENEE says of the video: “I knew I wanted the vid to be a weird fantasy story involving snails! I said to Anita that I wanted to be an elf with long braids riding a bike & have giant mushrooms somewhere in the vid... She came back with the treatment & I loved it! Her imagination is super whacky in the best way and I’m so happy with how ‘Snail’ turned out.”

If BENEE’s year wasn’t busy enough, she today also announces she is launching her own record label Olive. The first signing to the label is Kenyan-New Zealander Muroki whose new single ‘Light Me Up’ is out now via Olive.

BENEE is currently touring around New Zealand. One of her sold out shows will be livestreamed from Auckland’s Spark Arena on Saturday 17 October at 7:20pm AEDT (9.20pm NZDT, 9:00am BST, 10am CEST). A full replay of the show will then be available for fans globally on Sunday 18 October from 7:00am AEDT (9:00am NZDT, Saturday 17 October  9:00pm BST, 10:00pm CEST). Ticket holders will then be able to access the stream on-demand for 48 hours following the performance. Tickets are available now HERE.

With a performance of ‘Supalonely’ in the US on Late Night with Seth Meyers last week and nominations from the MTV EMA’s in the PUSH Best New Artist category, and the E! People’s Choice Awards where she has been nominated for The New Artist of 2020 award, BENEE’s breakout year is only getting better. With an announcement on the release of her debut album expected soon, we can only expect more from this exceptional talent throughout the rest of 2020 and into the new year.

‘Snail’ is out now via Republic Records/Universal Music. You can stream and download here.
