Aya Yves releases poignant new single 'Dear E.'

Cooma-born Canberra native Aya Yves today returns with her third single ‘Dear E.’ A beguiling and heartbreaking pop ballad, the song deals with addiction, family and loss. Written with LANKS and produced with Xavier Dunn (Jack River, GRAACE), it’s gentle piano backing with a range of subdued electro beats allow Aya’s gorgeously emotive and tender vocal to take full stage.

A letter in song form to her sister who battled with drug addiction and cancer, it was an intensely emotional track for Aya to create. “I was driving to Sydney for my first co-writing session and received news that my sister had cancer,” said Aya about the song. “It had spread to her bones and couldn’t be treated. I was so angry at the world, so hurt. I’d spent the last 2-3 years being my sister’s primary support person through her struggles with addiction, and we’d finally been making progress. We’d taken 2 steps forward, only for any reason to keep walking being pulled out from underneath us. When asked what I wanted to write about, I felt like I couldn’t write about anything else, my brain was so consumed. I sat at Will’s dining table and bawled my eyes out, writing a letter about the things I wish I’d done differently.”

‘Dear E.’ showcases another side of Aya Yves after the release of her previous singles, the electro, experimental pop of ‘(in)Sanity’ and ‘Smart Girls’ showcasing again that Aya Yves (who formerly performed under the name Vendulka) is one of the most exciting new talents in Australian music to emerge this year.

‘Dear E.’ is out now, listen here.
