Swedish artist Anna Arco has released her new single ‘Grasp’, and has also announced her new album Songs From The Past will be released in September.
Written and produced by Arco, ‘Grasp’ features elements of pop, country and rock and weaves intoxicatingly from gentle and warm to heartbreaking via an electric guitar driven rock interlude.
The lyrics tell of finding the perfect love, before realising with disbelief the one you love is slowly and irreversibly moving away from you. “Just as I feel like everything falls into place / You drift away far into space.” Arco’s plaintive voice brilliantly evokes the desperation and denial as reality seeps in “Why is my love lost on you? / My love can’t be lost on you”
‘Grasp’ is the first single to be released from Arco’s third studio album Songs From The Past, due for release this September. It is her first album since 2021 and is a collection of acoustic songs that were not used on her previous projects, 2019’s Songs Within The Spectrum and 2021’s Sad Secret Songs.
The album marks a different soundscape from her previous synth-driven alt-pop, with Songs From The Past inspired by the music Arco grew up with, blending the sound of 1960s singer-songwriters with modern pop in an indie-folk-pop-mix.
Arco is one of those rare artists whose music never fails to move you, and ‘Grasp’ is no different. The song is intentional, nuanced, touching and very human in its exploration of the flaws, pain and emotions of love and relationships - both the beginnings, middle and end. A beautiful listening experience, it is confirmation Songs From The Past is shaping up to be another triumph from Arco.
‘Grasp’ is out now. You can download and stream here.
