Rising Australian superstar Yorke today releases her new single, ‘break up season’, launching a new sonic era for her after 2025’s unfinished business EP and its reimagined version finished business was released in April.

Co-written and produced with Grammy award-winning producer Tommy Brown (Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Blackpink, Justin Bieber), the song was born last year as part of the ARIA Collab program which Yorke describes as “one of the most formative weeks of my career.”

Opening with a distorted, dark vocal, the song sees Yorke move even more heavily into a pure pop sound with a jaunty synth beat behind an up and down melody and cheerleader backing vocals. The song breaks down into a delicious swirl of synths and staccato beats in the middle eight.

“Breakups are inevitable, so you might as well make them fun to listen to,” Yorke says..“‘break up season’ is playful and fun and not meant to be taken too seriously. The song was written after my friend was spilling the tea on some break ups that had happened in our inner circles since I’d last seen her, and some of them were a bit scandalous. She made a comment about it being ‘break up season’ and I jokingly said that I hoped I’m not next… I walked into the studio knowing exactly what I wanted. It’s rare that I start with a song title, so it was fun to start with that and work backwards. We wrote the song a few hours after that.”

Also out today is the darkly comedic music video for ‘break up season’ which sees Yorke at the helm of her own ‘breakup clinic’.

“We were tossing up so many different ideas for this video”, says Yorke. “But it all kept coming back to one thing; the cyclical nature of break ups and how the people we confide in wear our break ups too. So Yorke’s break up clinic was born, filled with weird and wonderful people getting their broken hearts fixed… or not (spoiler alert!).”

With over 50 million streams to her name, Yorke is one of Australia’s greatest young artists and is rapidly becoming a global sensation, with a huge fanbase across Korea, Japan, China and the US. 2026 will continue to be a massive year for Yorke, with more live shows and new music on the way after she recently appeared at the CUEW Music Festival in Japan, and also performed a special fan show and meet and greet in Shimokitazawa.

With a knack for creating glorious pop music, often with a hint of melancholy or a splash of humour, Yorke is an artist that is continually evolving and seemingly becomes more impressive with every release. If you have to have your heart broken, ‘break up season’ is your perfect soundtrack, and if you are still happy in love then it is the perfect warmup for more incredible new music from Yorke this year.
