Vera Blue returns with new single 'Temper'

Today Vera Blue returns with her first new music in over a year, the single ‘Temper’.

Written with fellow singer-songwriter Carla Wehbe and producer Robby De Sa (Gretta Ray, MAY-A), the song is explores the turbulence of new love set to an anthemic 1980s-inspired beat with a liberal dose of electric guitar, an instrument Vera has been inspired by over the past 12 months.

“I don't know whether it's made up, but people always say redheads are a bit fiery, and that we have a bit of a short fuse,” Vera says. “This song's about grabbing hold of that emotion and trying to suppress it so you don't scare your partner away. It makes me dance, but it's also got that emotional edge.”

With her music usually extremely personal and intimate, ‘Temper’ marks a first for Vera Blue as the subject matter is not based on her own experience, but rather of those around her that spoke to her own feelings but was not reflective of her own life. “It's really interesting writing a song about what you're not feeling at the time,” she says. “It just flows because it's almost like you're out of body, so I found it quite enjoyable. Writing ‘Temper’ was about experimenting, and making me feel something different from music, which I love.”

Since launching the Vera Blue project in 2015, the artist formally known as Celia Pavey has grown into one of Australia’s most vibrant artists. Her debut album Perennial peaked at number 6 on the Australian charts in 2017 and she has also secured massive success through her single collaborations with Illy and Flume. Last year’s single ‘Lie To Me’ has been streamed over 11 million times and with major international record deals with Republic Records in the US and EMI in the UK, Vera Blue is only just getting starting. ‘Temper’ is the first chapter in this new era of Vera Blue and it is looking to one her absolute best yet.

‘Temper’ is out now via Island Records Australia. You can buy and stream here.
