Vera Blue returns with new single 'Lie To Me'

Australia’s Vera Blue today returns with new single ‘Lie To Me’. Following up from her top 10 smash hit with Flume ‘Rushing Back’ from last year, ‘Lie To Me’ marks the first release from the new era of Vera Blue. A smooth, electro pop track written and produced with Andy and Thom Mak, if the theme of Blue’s outstanding 2018 debut album Perennial was the collapse of a relationship ‘Lie To Me’ explores the opposite end of the spectrum - falling madly in love. While the song is inspired by her current relationship, the lyrics are not dedicated to her romantic interest but rather the internal, warring voices that run through her head.

"When you go through a lot of emotional shit, you can’t imagine yourself in a new relationship,” Vera says. “Then you suddenly fall into one, and the fear and mistrust can be overwhelming: ‘is this as amazing as it seems - or is it going to blow up in my face again?’”

Creating the song, she says, was a chance to really experiment creatively for the entire team. “The lyrics and melodies that I wrote with Thom came from a more poetic and obscure experimental place for both of us. With Andy digging into new exciting sonic landscapes imitating the raw emotion and [engineer] Jackson bringing the tones to life tracking various instruments through the amazing sounding console and outboard gear at the grove studios. This song had us all wide eyed and buzzing.”

‘Lie To Me’ is the start of an exciting new phase in Vera Blue’s career, not least because it also marks her signing with Republic Records in the US, home to Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande amongst others, confirming the huge global interest in this immensely talented home grown superstar.
