Tove Lo releases new single 'True Romance' and announces new album 'Dirt Femme' will be out in October

Swedish superstar Tove Lo today releases her new single ‘True Romance’ and announces her fifth studio album Dirt Femme will be released on October 14.

Following on from the epic synthpop single ‘No One Dies From Love’, which has racked up over 21 million streams to date, ‘True Romance’ is a stripped back, brooding electronic ballad full of raw emotion with a stunning vocal performance from Lo. Written with and produced by Timfromthehouse, the song explores seeking solace from the world in a relationship. ‘I don’t like the real world / It’s tough out in the real world / Let’s go back to our world,’ she sings.

“We both had a need to write something different and dramatic,” Lo says of creating the song. “It took me three days to get the lyrics right, but I recorded it in one take. The lyrics are based on the movie True Romance, destructive love at its best and worst.”

Both ‘True Romance’ and ‘No One Dies From Love’ will feature on Lo’s fifth studio album Dirt Femme which will be out on October 14 via Lo’s own label Pretty Swede Records. Featuring 12 tracks, a number of major names appear throughout including SG Lewis, Channel Tres and First Aid Kit.

Dirt Femme is about me and my relationship with my femininity,” Lo says. “When I started out as a writer and an artist, I used to view my feminine traits as weaker and would enhance my masculine traits to get ahead in life. I feel a big energy shift in my environment since then and this album reflects the various ways my feminine side has both helped and hurt me.”

“I’m a pansexual woman married to a straight man. I believe masculine and feminine lives on a spectrum in all humans. There are so many more interesting nuances than most people want to accept. Songs on this album will contradict each other, will probably upset some of you, will make you want to dance, cry, fuck and drive your car really, really, fast. It’s extremely personal as always which is why it’s so hard to describe in just a few words. It’s all my feelings, thoughts and questions put together in under 50 minutes with no answers. But I know that I always feel relief and connection when a song just speaks to my emotions without telling me what to do about them. I hope this album reaches that little secret pocket in your heart where all the real stuff is hiding.”

Lo has been one of the most impressive and talented artists to emerge from Sweden in the last decade. She has a unique talent for creating incredible pop music whilst still remaining cutting edge, experimental and honest to no-one but herself. Based on Lo’s work to date and her last two singles, Dirt Femme is set to be one of this year’s greatest albums.
