Music icon Tori Amos, one of the most influential artists of her generation, today announces she will release her 18th studio album In Times of Dragons on 1 May.
In perhaps a reflection of the world we are currently living in, the music on the album will tell stories, through a cast of characters, of resilience and awakening as evil forces seek to repress and silence freedoms.
"In Times of Dragons is a metaphorical story about the fight for Democracy over Tyranny, reflecting the current abhorrent non accidental burning down of democracy in real time by the ‘Dictator believing Lizard Demons’ in their usurpation of America,” Amos says.
Also revealed today is the artwork for the album by Kasia Wozniak. Using vintage photographic techniques, Wozniak worked with direct paper positives using the RA-4 process, shooting everything on a large-format camera.
“Each photograph was slowly composed, photographed, and processed,” Wozniak says. “It felt magical to weave Tori’s work and vision with my own. We moved from photograph to photograph with an intuitive rhythm, aligned in every shot. The process became a kind of ritual".
"To work with Kasia and stylist Karen Binns to bring the story and characters to life was a truly moving experience,” Amos adds. “Seeing our collaborations come to life, with them and the whole team will live with me forever".
Amos has been a major force in the music industry for over 30 years. Her 1992 debut album Little Earthquakes sold over 3 million copies worldwide and she scored major chart hits in Australia with the singles ‘Cornflake Girl’ and ‘Professional Widow (It’s Got To Be Big)’, the latter also hitting number one in the UK.
Name checked as an inspiration by countless female artists, Amos is a pivotal artist that has helped shape the music industry we enjoy today. In Times of Dragons will in no doubt strengthen that legacy.
In Times of Dragons will be released on 1 May via Universal/Fontana. You can pre-order and pre-save now.
