Tones And I returns with new single 'Eyes Don't Lie'

Australian superstar Tones And I has returned today with the new single ‘Eyes Don’t Lie’. It her first new music since the release of her chart topping, debut album Welcome To The Madhouse last year.

The track is a powerful pop song with a driving beat, a multi-layered, swirling electronic background and a guitar that lends a tinge of country to the mix. Like everything Tones does, there is a raw, honest and moving story portrayed in the lyrics.

“‘Eyes Don’t Lie’ is written about a large loss of someone/something,” Tones says. “Resenting the person/feeling you get and realising it was a toxic person/feeling all along. Someone taking advantage of you and you taking advantage of yourself. Feeling better off and putting that last bit of bitterness behind you.”

Also out today is the music video, which was co-directed by Tones and was filmed in locations near Newcastle and Adelaide. Beginning with her car breaking down in the desert, she traipses to a dive bar and ends up in sand dunes being visiting by cloaked demons brandishing hourglasses, with every step of her journey being plagued by a lone scorpion.

“The music video reflects being alone, but not lonely,” she explains. “Escaping something that hurt and happy to be wherever else, even though it’s over. I am still reflecting and telling my story one last time, before I move on.”

Tones And I has become one of the biggest stars in the world since her second single, 2019’s ‘Dance Monkey’ exploded worldwide, hitting number one in Australia and the UK, and number four in the US. It has since become the third most streamed song ever on Spotify, with over 2.5 billion streams to date. Based on ‘Eyes Don’t Lie’, this new music in her next era is shaping up to be truly outstanding.

‘Eyes Don’t Lie’ is out now via Bad Batch Records/Sony Music. You can download and stream here.
