Theresa Rex releases delicious new electronic-synth single 'Say Something'
Danish singer-songwriter Theresa Rex rose to stardom as a featured singer on some of dance music’s biggest hits and today she releases her new single ‘Say Something’
Written by Rex with Swedish songwriter Amanda Alexander and Danish producer Lasse Baunkilde, ‘Say Something’ starts off with a laid back electronic beat before it builds into a delicious synth filled chorus with irresistible melodies that sweep you up in a sense of absolute joyful abandonment. Rex’s incredible vocals set everything off, moving from full blooded and powerful to high pitched vulnerability.
The song is inspired by communication. Rex says she often finds it difficult to have serious conversations about deep topics and in turn finds it easier to say nothing at all. This in turn creates a cycle in her head that other people are judging her for her lack of eloquence, leaving her wishing she could just ‘say something’. ‘I play a fool to break the tension…I push and push but you do not react,’ she sings.
Rex first came to attention as the featured single on Martin Jensen’s worldwide 2016 smash hit ‘Solo Dance’ which has over 700 million streams on Spotify, although her identity was not revealed until several years later. In 2018 she launched her solo career with the single ‘Wild Ones’, and in 2019 featured on the UK top 20 Jonas Blue hit ‘What I Like About You’. She has since released a string of multi-million streaming solo singles alongside further collaborations.
Theresa Rex always gifts us music that is quite simply compelling. Pop but with an edge, fun but often with a melancholic undertone, her musical creations are smart, polished and deeply satisfying, made all the more captivating by her stellar voice. ‘Say Something’ is up there with the very best pop music around today and we can’t wait for more music from Theresa Rex in 2023.
