Tegan and Sara release new single 'Faded Like A Feeling'

Canadian duo Tegan and Sara today release their new single ‘Faded Like A Feeling’, the third taste of upcoming 10th studio album CRYBABY, due October 21.

Written by Tegan and Sara with John Congleton, ‘Faded Like A Feeling’ is a gorgeous, gentle ballad with swirling synths meeting lullaby chimes held together by the duo’s warm and emotive vocals. Lyrically it tells a heartbreaking story of a relationship that is too intense to last. “When we met, I worried that /
You and me sparked too easy…I just lost the feeling / I changed like the seasons / You faded like a feeling.” they sing.

CRYBABY was produced by the band alongside John Congleton (Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten) and recorded in Seattle and Los Angeles. “This was the first time where, while we were still drafting our demos, we were thinking about how the songs were going to work together,” says Tegan. “It wasn't even just that Sara was making lyric changes or reorganising the parts to my songs, it was that she was also saying to me, ‘This song is going to be faster,’ or ‘It's going to be in a different key.’ But Sara effectively improves everything of mine that she works on.”

Tegan and Sara have been making music for 20 years, and this year it feels like their creativity it reaching it’s peak. Alongside the release of new music, the Amazon Freevee series High School, based on the twins’ memoir of the same name, will debut its first three episodes on September 10 at the Toronto Film Festival, ahead of its October 14 debut on Amazon Freevee.

Also coming up is the middle-grade graphic novel duology Tegan & Sara: Junior High and Tegan & Sara: Crush, written by the twins and illustrated by Tillie Walden. Also based on their own experiences, the story is about identical twins growing up and growing apart, coming to terms with their queerness and falling in love with music over the course of junior high. The first volume is due for release in 2023.

Amongst everything that is going on in their career, Tegan and Sara’s musical genius shines ever brighter and based on what we have heard so far, CRYBABY is set to be their greatest work yet. ‘Faded Like A Feeling’ is an absolute gem, put it on now and drown in its beauty.
