Jul 22 PREMIERE: SEETALI returns with new single 'Poison & Wine' featuring Kaiyah Mercedes

Naarm/Melbourne artist SEETALI will release her first new music of 2025, ‘Poison & Wine’, on Wednesday but today the hypnotic single premieres here exclusively on Women In Pop.

Featuring vocals from SEETALI’s long time collaborator Kaiyah Mercedes, who also co-wrote the song with SEETALI, ‘Poison & Wine’ is a gorgeously delicate song that brings together the traditional sounds of a piano driven ballad with a discrete skittering electronic beat. The pared back, but never simple, soundscape allows Mercedes’ voice to shine as the captivating focus of the song.

The lyrics add a heartfelt melancholy to the song as Mercedes sings of the pain and hollowness after a relationship ends, with a mixture of sadness and bitterness. ‘Do you like the songs that I write? / Even though you’re between the lines / My room’s empty and I hope yours is haunted.'‘

“It’s a bittersweet truth about accepting not everyone’s going to be sorry, or care to the same extent you are and how for your own headspace you need to learn to accept that, and sometimes you need to be your own form of closure,” SEETALI says.

Initially starting her music career as a guitarist, SEETALI later segued into production and has since accumulated over 1.5 million streams on Spotify, as well as garnering a nomination at the 2024 St Kilda Film Festival for her film score work. Alongside a number of collaborations with Mercedes, SEETALI has also worked with independent artists Kevin Silvester and Magdalia.
