PREMIERE: Kudu Joy release new single 'Fallout'

Tasmanian act Kudu Joy, headed by Sabine Bester, release new single ‘Fallout’ tomorrow, May 10, but today you can listen to the track exclusively on Women In Pop.

‘Fallout’ is their first single since 2020 and is a mesmerising track which defies categorisation and incorporates elements of electronica, indie, R&B with dashes of jazz. It evokes sensations of late night chill outs and of being completely carefree and will have you quickly reaching for the repeat button.

“I’m a songwriter based in the south of Tassie. I mostly find myself writing about people I love, and love lost,” Bester says. “‘Fallout’ was formed through a late-night jam on an old Juno with my dear friend Jay Jarome, and developed alongside Jack McLaine from Sumner. I had just been through a testing period of friendships falling apart, and I was in a place where I felt ready to reflect on what had gone down. I’d spent months feeling disappointed in myself and shouldering the blame, so this song helped me unpack what had actually happened, and to gain back some confidence and self worth. It’s an unapologetic awakening from a place of darkness, where I learned to stand up for myself.

‘Fallout’ is a story of personal evolution. It opens with swelling synth, joined by textural percussion and gritty bass. The intimate, focused vocals build the narrative towards a dramatic end of interwoven heart-wrenching melodies; a release of truths.”

The song is an indication of more quality music to come from Kudu Joy, for now immerse yourself in ‘Fallout’ below before its general release tomorrow.
