Australian singer-songwriter MAY-A today announces her debut album Goodbye (If You Call That Gone) will be released on 20 February 2026

MAY-A has spent the last two years creating the album in Sydney and Los Angeles, travelling between the two cities seeking inspiration and finding the right musicians to bring her vision to life.

Working with Carlos De La Garza (Paramore), Chloe Dadd, Chris Greatti (Yungblud, Willow), Rock n Roll Hall of Fame drummer Ilan Rubin (Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails) and Robby De Sa, the album sees MAY-A at her full power, conveyed in her own inimitable, genre blending way.

And while the first taste of the album has contained uplifting messages, from the power punk of ‘[REDACTED]’ (‘We don’t want to listen / We just want to dance’) and the glorious synth-pop-rock of ‘(I’m here for the) Girls’ (‘Wanna feel you sweat / Wanna make you feel something…wanna hear you scream’) the album is based around living through trauma and huge life changes that ultimately shape you into the person you need to become.

“This album wasn’t easy to write, there were definitely points where giving up felt easier than pushing through, but I needed the catharsis, it is a representation of a time in my life and the emotions I was dealing with,” MAY-A says. “When people talk about change, they often skip over the uncomfortable, messy parts. This record doesn’t. It dives into the raw, unfiltered emotions that come with transformation, amplifying the darkness that in turn, makes the light mean something.”

"Goodbye (If You Call That Gone) is a mirror of the healing process in all its complexity, an amalgamation of loss, betrayal, anger, resentment, and, most importantly, the quiet triumph of moving through what once felt impossible,” she continues. “I wanted to take listeners on a journey. We’ve all had someone who’s made us feel small, stripped us of who we thought we were, until we barely recognised ourselves. This record is about finding your way back from that."

Today also sees the release of another sample of the album with the release of the single ‘Claws’. A pop-rock track delivered with a snarl by MAY-A, it sees her tearing down a relationship that only served one side - and it wasn’t MAYA-A’s. ‘You can sell it how you want, but I’ll fight back baby / You got teeth, but I’ve got claws.’

“This song is about being under-estimated and under-appreciated. Feeling betrayed in general, feeling like justice is never served. It’s about getting your bite back after feeling wronged,” MAY-A says.

The video for ‘Claws’ will premiere today at 5pm AEDT.

After releasing music for over six years, MAY-A has truly come into her own over the past 12 months. She opened for UK band Glass Animals on their Australian headline tour last year and earlier this year she was handpicked by pop legend Cyndi Lauper to sing ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’ on stage at her sold-out Sydney show. Her next live shows will be at Rolling Sets in Tweed Heads on November 29 and the Central Coast on December 6.

Always a charismatic, fascinating and hyper-creative performer, Goodbye (If You Call That Gone) is not just the next era in MAY-A’s music, it is, as she says, her best era.
