Isabella Manfredi returns today with her second solo single ‘One Hit Wonder’. The follow up to May’s ‘Jealousy’, both tracks will feature on her debut solo album due next year.

Written and produced by Manfredi with Lucy Taylor (Dua Lipa, Ellie Goulding) and Chris Collins, ‘One Hit Wonder’ is a glorious pop track with an insistent groove and a veritable feast of instrumental delights, from percussion to gorgeous piano and invigorating guitar solos. Written while Manfredi was still a member of her previous band the Preatures but subconsciously already checking out, the song was in many ways the catalyst for her solo career. “When I walked into the session for 'One Hit Wonder' in March 2020, two weeks before the pandemic really hit, The Preatures had already been in limbo for eighteen months and I had been off the stage and in stalemate,” she says. “The day before the session I had been in the studio with G Flip, Jess B and Thandi Phoenix for Like a Version, and I came home from rehearsals energised and inspired. I sat down at my piano and wrote the prechorus and chorus, and over the next few days I finished 'One Hit Wonder' with Chris Collins and Lucy Taylor. I remember it feeling tongue in cheek at the time, like maybe it could be a Preatures song. But I was really saying I was done with the band before I was ready to admit it to myself. I think sometimes it can be hard to swallow that the strongest thing you can do is cut your losses and walk away. It's also right to acknowledge when something truly was wondrous and leave it at that.”

Manfredi has been one of the leading lights of the Australian music scene for almost ten years. As lead singer and main songwriter of indie-rock band The Preatures, she scored two top 20 albums, seven ARIA Award nominations and in 2013 won the prestigious Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition. She has also been a vocal advocate for female empowerment and acts as both an advocate and mentor for songwriting organisation APRA. After leaving The Preatures earlier this year, she launched her solo career and it is proving to be the most powerful and exciting era in her career to date. Her debut solo album is guaranteed to be one of the highlights of 2022, but for now enjoy ‘One Hit Wonder’ and it’s accompanying lyric video created by Manfredi herself.

‘One Hit Wonder’ is out now via Island Records. You can buy and stream here.
