Exclusive: Marshes creates the D.U.M.B. Feels playlist for Women In Pop

Singer, songwriter and DJ Marshes released her incredible new single ‘D.U.M.B.’ last Friday, A gorgeous, low key electro ballad, it shows off Marshes incredible range as an artist, as comfortable and authentic with a slower, vulnerable track as she is with a dancefloor banger.

To celebrate the release of her new music, Marshes has created a playlist exclusively for Women In Pop: D.U.M.B. Feels. It’s a killer playlist, and you can listen as well as read Marshes’ commentary on the tracks below.

Coinciding with my new release D.U.M.B. I’ve put together a special WOMEN IN POP PLAYLIST of some of the songs that are connecting with me at the moment.

July - Noah Cyrus - I love how exposed this vocal is and how you can get right up close with the story she is telling, what a rad artist.

Hurricane - Wafia - This chorus melody is so sick! Wafia always delivers.

To Be Young — Anne Maria & Doja Cat,  Something super nostalgic about the melody of this chorus and a slightly more lo-fi direction from these two artists. Love the lyrics = basically make mistakes, no one knows what they’re doing, but that’s just life. Yep, I can get on board that.

Enemy - Charli xcx  - These lyrics have a similar notion to my new song  D.U.M.B. "hard to get close cus you’re scared”, “maybe you’re my enemy?” D.U.M.B. is like ‘if you get too close you’ll see who I really am and you won’t like me, so I’m scared to say what I feel.'

Rushing Back - Petit Biscuit Remix feat Vera Blue. A Flume track, however Vera Blue’s voice is off the chart and I particularly love how she sounds in this chopped up remix.

Now I’m In It - HAIM.   HAIM are the best, the kind of gang I want to be a part of. They seem like they have so much fun, take the piss out of themselves and they always stay true to their sound which to me is full of rich distorted real instruments but delivered nice and punchy with sick pop melodies.

Let You Leave - Kota Banks - This one of Kota’s is cute as heck. Pretty and bouncy.

Somehow - Kllo - this chorus is so incredibly simple and it does so much to me. I love the lush landscape it’s all floating in. Vibes.

Cool People - Chloe x Halle - Ah man, it’s hard to find ‘your’ kind of cool people in the world, but they are out there. Keep looking. This song is a reminder.

Pieces of Us - Mark Ronson feat King Princess - I love King Princess’s attitude when she sings and she mellows out this Mark Ronson track who is my King of Dance Music.

Smoke Too Much - JOY.  I always come back to this song even though it’s been out for a while, I’m a sucker for a piano pop song with a beat. JOY’s vocal is fire.

Wildest Ones. - Eves Karydas, Another track that’s been out for while but I remember once I had this song on repeat for a whole hour when I went for a run. I can’t even explain why I like it. But I also like that I can’t, music can do things to you that you have no control over. I’m having a really hard time articulating the feeling it gives me.

I Wanna Know - Bea Miller -  Admittedly I didn’t like the original of this song, but then I heard the acoustic version, I could hear all the the tone and colour in her voice and I connect way more with it.

Hyperfine - GFlip - I dig this because it’s like she’s speaking a conversation and I know exactly what she’s talking about. She’s so authentically herself too.

Call Your Girlfriend. Robyn - Robyn is such a boss and I love her so much.  She is weird and wonderful and such a great pop writer and an energetic performer. I love this song, it makes me want to dance and it always makes me think of the video clip.
