ARIA nominated Australian artist Charley has released her new single ‘Bite My Tongue’, the fourth taste of her debut album due for release on 17 April.
Created in London with production duo The Nocturns (Perrie, Maisie Peters, Mimi Webb), ‘Bite My Tongue’ is a rousing pop-rock track with a driving beat and a faint hint of country music, interjected with a prominent thread of melancholy. Charley sings of the realisation that a relationship is not going the way she wants it to and it becomes clear it is easier to say nothing and let things play out however they will. ‘Guess I’ll wait until you see that she’s not what you want / I’ll bite my tongue.’
“Songwriting is a form of therapy for me. I like to take the tougher parts of life and turn them into something creative,” Charley says. “‘Bite My Tongue’ is about the realisation that sometimes you have to pretend to be ok with the person you want wanting someone else, more than they want you, and accept that certain things are better left unsaid.”
‘Bite My Tongue’ will feature on Charley’s debut album The Chronicles of a Serial Idealist, to be released on 17 April. It will also include ‘Man On The Moon’ which recently won Charley the Emerging Global Songwriter Award at the prestigious Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition.
To celebrate the release of The Chronicles of a Serial Idealist, Charley will tour across the east coast of Australia in May. Preceded by an appearance at the iconic queer line dancing night Saddle Club at Petersham Town Hall tomorrow night, The Tour Of A Serial Idealist will visit Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Newcastle with tickets on sale now.
After first releasing music in 2021, Charley has steadily become one of Australia brightest young artists, cemented by her 2023 ARIA nomination for Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist. With 16 million combined streams to her name, she has also supported major international artists on their tours including Stephen Sanchez, G Flip, Griff and FLETCHER. The Chronicles of a Serial Idealist already promises to be an outstanding collection of pop music and will further mark Charley as one of Australia’s greatest pop artists.
