Aya Yves returns with new single 'feeling small (let the light in)'

One of Australia’s most mesmerising independent artists Aya Yves today returns with her new single ‘feeling small (let the light in)’, her first new music since mid-2022.

Written by Yves with long time collaborators Bri Clark and Xavier Dunn, the song begins with a rush of distorted sounds before merging into a lush, low key electronic track. The pared back soundscape in the verse is interrupted by flashes of synths before the chorus swoops in with Yves’ majestic vocal and a driving beat. Its uplifting melodies speak of hope, rebirth and revitalisation which is reflected in the lyrics as Yves sings of finding peace in feeling insignificant, small in a big world: “I don’t want to feel crowded in a crowded place.”

“‘feeling small (let the light in)’ captures the feeling of when you climb a mountain or gaze at the stars and feel small and insignificant - but in a really empowering way. We are all just tiny specs, floating through endless space - so why sweat the small stuff? Do the things that scare you, listen to your inner child, chase what sets your soul on fire and don’t forget to let the light in along the way,” she says.

Aya Yves is an artist that has been constantly evolving since she launched her project in 2020. With a stunning voice, she has proven time and time again she can authentically inhabit anything from electro bops to heartbreaking ballads. She also has a remarkable talent to produce music that you can feel as well as listen to, thanks to her insightful lyrics that openly reflect both her joy as well as raw pain. ‘feeling small (let the light in)’ is a triumphant return for Yves and 2023 is shaping up to be another year of incredible music from this remarkable artist.
