Melbourne’s ASHWARYA has released new single ‘Can’t Relate’, her first new music since the release of her debut EP Nocturnal Hours in October last year.

Written with and produced by Wollongong artist Stevan, ‘Can’t Relate’ is a genre bending, structure breaking track which delightfully veers from one soundscape to another. Kicking off with Ashwarya rapping over punchy beats, it transforms into a fairground organ vibe with a powerful vocal performance before sliding back into rap and distorted sounds.

“‘Can't Relate’ was a song that came out of nowhere, which is what I think adds to its unpredictability,” Ashwarya says. “I'd just finished touring with The Rubens, and Sam, the legend, invited Stevan and I to come down to his studio in Thirroul, NSW, for a couple days. It reached a point in the session where Steve and I were creating in pure chaotic, unhinged frequencies (in a good way), which manifested itself into this track. At the core of it, the track speaks to a lot of the frustrations and the inner monologue of wanting to just dissociate from people who infantilise you. With all the crazy shit going on right now in the world (the list is endless) and the added anxieties through social media and the news, it's got me questioning, ‘what the fuck is going on here?’ ‘Is this really happening?’ Hopefully, it resonates because I can't seem to relate to a whole lot going on, especially now.”

Off the back of the release of ‘Can’t Relate’, ASHWARYA has a number of major live shows coming up. She will be performing at Brisbane’s BIGSOUND festival on September 6 and September 9, before the big one - supporting Dua Lipa at the Palais Theatre Melbourne on October 30, before Lipa’s Future Nostalgia Australian tour kicks off.

First coming to attention in 2020 with her debut single ‘Psycho Hole’ and its follow up ‘Biryani’, both with over 1 million streams on Spotify alone, ASHWARYA has proven she is an artist with remarkable versatility and can authentically inhabit any number of genres, from experimental electronica through to heartbreaking piano ballads. With more new music coming soon, ASHWARYA is about to become even bigger and better than before - add her to your playlist now.
