Sydney singer Tiana Troy released her debut single ‘Breathe’ in August, a club-ready banger mixing pop, electro and trance. With an EP on the way, Women In Pop recently caught up with Troy to find out more about her career, her music and future plans.

Hi Tiana! Thanks for chatting with us! Your music has a really ‘now’ contemporary sound to it - what musicians inspire you?
Ariana Grande , Christina Aguilera are probably the two main ones. I love their voices, style and how they have built successful careers. Demi Lovato, Dua Lipa and a lot of the singers coming up now are really inspiring as well. I’m also a big fan of Mariah Carey and Aaliyah.

What are your first memories of music as a child?
Music has always been a big part of my family as my parents are huge music fans. Ever since I can remember we have had music playing through out the house.

How long have you been singing and performing for?
I’ve been singing since I was ten but it’s only in the last year have started to take it really seriously with the help of my parents and working with Dream30 Agency.

Can you tell us about the creation of your debut single ‘Breathe’?
Producer & writer Jarrod Bain and I wrote the song in one of our sessions when we were working on my EP Hooked On Love which is coming out later this year. This song is a summer track made for the clubs and can be interpreted as a love song, a self-empowerment dance track or just a fun track to listen to. Its one of my favourite songs on the EP!

Do you have a process for creating your music? What inspires you?
My dad and Jarrod have set up a home studio in our upstairs area so every Thursday we would escape up there and trial and error sounds and styles. I am inspired by my family, real stories and my experiences.

Is there a particular message you like to convey in your music?
As it’s my first original EP, it has a few songs about love but in general I want people to go away feeling good about themselves after they hear my music.

What’s next for Tiana Troy?
Get my EP out there, do lots of gigs and give my music the opportunity it deserves!

Tiana Troy is performing on October 3 at The Horse in Surry Hills where she will also be launching her EP Hooked On Love. To keep up to date with all thinga Tiana Troy, you can follow her on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
