Irish singer-songwriter Róisín Murphy today returns with the release of her first new music since 2020 with the single ‘CooCool’.

A collaboration with German producer DJ Koze, ‘CooCool’ is an impossibly cool, deliciously hypnotic disco-soul track that also brings in elements of jazz and funk, with Murphy’s unique voice wrapping around the repeated ‘coo-coo’ like the most beautiful, mirrorball encrusted songbird.

“Ostensibly a fragile little flower yet it has great hidden strength at the roots,” Murphy says of the song. “There’s classic virtuosity and a lightness of touch, while DJ Koze’s hyper-modern production makes it bounce and glide.  It’s a stupidly romantic little love poem. ‘This thing is way beyond any kind of parody’.  Everything in this song is true and playful.  Can we fall in love and retain our sense of humour?  ‘Embrace your inner child!’ Timeless, ageless, unavoidable love.”

Murphy’s first release since signing to record label Ninja Tune, ‘CooCool’ comes ahead of a slew of live dates talking her from London to Mexico across the northern summer.

First coming to prominence as one half of electronic duo Moloko in the late 1990s, Murphy launched her solo career in 2005, and to date has released five studio albums. Achieving success all over the world, she has maintained a reputation as one of the most creative, unpredictable and cutting edge talents in music. ‘CooCool’ is proof she is still not afraid to push musical boundaries and experiment with her sound. With more music coming from Murphy throughout the year, 2023 is shaping up to be a triumphant return to our ears and hearts.

‘CooCool’ is out now via Ninja Tune. You can buy and stream here.
