British rising superstar Rachel Chinouriri today releases her new single ‘Broken Chair’ ahead of the release of her second album I think I spoke too soon on 16 October.

Written in Los Angeles alongside friend and fellow musician Lucy Dacus, ‘Broken Chair’ continues Chinouriri’s sonic exploration into more electronic-synth based pop music. With a restrained, retro synth sound that allows Chinouriri’s beautifully emotive vocal to take centre stage, the song moves into a multi-vocal, almost party sound towards the end.

The joy sometimes present in the soundscape provides a juxtaposition to the lyrics as Chinouriri explores her relationship with partying and alcohol, comparing herself to a broken chair on the street. It becomes apparent the bravado behind her words - ‘You look lonely, but not me…I’m the life of the party’ - covers up a realisation she is out of control. ‘You all love me till I'm sober / I'm walking home the morning after / Your friendly neighbourhood disaster / I must be out of my mind.’

“I started having these realisations about drinking and partying and all these things and Lucy almost reassured me that I am more than enough just being who I am and what I want to be,” Chinouriri says.

‘Broken Chair’ is the third taste of Chinouriri’s second album I think I spoke too soon due for release on 16 October. Featuring 12 tracks, it is the follow up to Chinouriri’s critically acclaimed debut album What A Devastating Turn of Events. The album peaked in the top 20 of the UK Albums Charts and earned Chinouriri two Brit Award nominations as well as Ivor Novello Award and BBC Sound Of nominations.

Next year, Chinouriri will be touring Australia and New Zealand for the very first time with performances at the Laneway festival in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Auckland, alongside two headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne.

With over 500 million streams and a high profile support slot on Sabrina Carpenter’s UK + Europe Short n’ Sweet arena tour, Chinouriri is quickly becoming music’s biggest and brightest young artists. She has the ability to combine very real, sometimes very raw storylines with music and melodies that range from exhilarating to melancholic and everywhere in between, Chinouriri is an artist you don’t just listen to, you experience and inhabit everything she does, and I think I spoke too soon is the exciting next step in her incredible musical journey.
