Australian-Chilean artist ELAURA releases her new single ‘That Ain’t It’ on 11 March, but today you can listen and watch the video exclusively on Women In Pop.

The song is a smooth, R&B track with an early 2000s vibe and ELAURA brilliantly treads the line between an intimate, stripped back sound that features enough layers to be intriguing without sounding overproduced. Lyrically, she sings of a relationship that is nothing short of toxic, but ultimately sees her reclaim her own power as she walks away. ‘Do you recognise yourself? / Go power play with someone else’ she sings.

Written solo by a heartbroken ELAURA with her guitar on the floor of her apartment, the song soon became a collaborative creation, featuring vocals from Priscilla Stanley, Yara Alkurd, Zoe Jenner and Amaya MacDonald with Nick Vargas on guitar. It was recorded by Josh Yardy and produced by Moses Carr alongside Nicolas Duquemin as vocal producer.

“I hope people blast it, sing it with their chest, and feel that 2000s R&B groove kick in, because that era’s drama and power were everything I wanted to channel in this track,” ELAURA says.

The music video, directed by Bryce Thomas-Morgan, sees a face off on the soccer field between a girls and guys, a match that ELAURA wins with a penalty goal.

‘Creating the visuals from Emi’s ideas and working with such a passionate and creative force was such an honour,” Thomas-Morgan says. “From planning to shooting, it was such a fun time with the best crew, and I’m glad we got the visuals to a place where they really told the story of the song.”

Born in Australia with Chilean heritage, ELAURA’s name comes from her first and second name - Emily and Laura, which are also her grandmother and great aunt’s names. She first released music in 2019, and has released a number of singles since with primarily a gorgeous R&B-neo-soul sound, regularly incorporating her second language Spanish, although last year she also released two electronic dance singles in collaboration with Max Glyde.

ELAURA has a magnetic presence that is more powerful thanks, conversely, to its subtlety. Her music doesn’t shout at you, her vocals are honey smooth and never demanding or attention seeking, and her songs are perfectly crafted to gently seep into your heart - before you know it you have fallen so deep you have no desire to ever leave. ‘That Ain’t It’ is another gem in ELAURA’s burgeoning portfolio, check it out below right now before its general release on 11 March.
