New single from Lola Scott 'The Eviction Song' out now

Today Sydney based indiepop queen Lola Scott releases her quirky new single ‘The Eviction Song’. A dreamy, guitar based indiepop track with a hint of synth in the background, on the surface the song tells a wry story about being evicted from her share house, but the chorus takes a melancholic turn with Scott questioning why as humans we constantly seek approval from others. “Why do we try to please everyone around us / I tried, but I’d rather die” she sings with a beautiful, plaintive yearning to her voice.

“Earlier this year, my housemates and I were evicted from our house,” Scott says of the inspiration behind the song. “We’re not sure what for, but can only assume the many house parties, leading to many noise complaints, didn’t help. When I wrote this song it was my sixth move in the last four years; and this house was by far one of most chaotic share-houses I’ve ever lived in. The song developed from the idea that when you live with a bunch of wild cards, and have the type of landlord who hoards things under the floorboards, you can never please everyone.”

A classically trained guitarist, Scott started in the music industry as an internationally touring session musician before launching her solo career in 2018, with her 2019 single ‘Heaven Knows’ has pulled in well over a quarter of a million streams worldwide since it’s release.

With ‘The Eviction Song’ her fifth track to be released this year, it is our first taste of the new era of Scott as she moves her music into new territory, placing a stronger focus on having fun with music and finding her true voice.
