The UK’s Maisie Peters today releases single ‘Body Better’, her first new music of 2023 and the first release of her soon to be announced second album.

Written by Peters with Ines Dunn (Griff, Mimi Webb) and producer Matias Téllez (girl in red, AURORA), the track is a heartbreaking account of the end of a relationship and the anxieties and hurt that develop when the other side moves on but you can’t. “The worst way to love somebody is to watch them love somebody else and it work out / Now, I can't help thinking that she's got a better body / Has she got a body better than mine?” Peters sings. Sonically the song is a gorgeous electro-synth-pop track with a heavy, chomping electro beat and swirling synths.

“‘Body Better’ is one of the most honest songs I've ever released, and definitely the most personal”, Peters says. “I wrote it after a breakup and it deals with the ugly things you think to yourself in the aftermath, when you’re painstakingly going through everything small thing you did and were and wondering what you could have changed. It’s a song about insecurity and vulnerability, about giving a lot of yourself away to someone who decides they don’t want it anymore, and knowing where to go from there.”

‘Body Better’ is released just days before Peters kicks off her Australian and New Zealand tour which will run throughout February and March. She will be performing her first ever headline shows down under, starting in Wellington, New Zealand on February 3 as well as supporting Ed Sheeran on the Australian leg of his + - = ÷ x Tour (pronounced ‘The Mathematics Tour’).

From her first single release in 2017, Peters has steadily become one of the UK’s greatest young talents, with her 2021 debut album You Signed Up For This soaring to number 2 on the UK albums chart and her songs gathering streams in the tens of millions. With ‘Body Better’ launching the next chapter of her musical journey, 2023 is shaping up to be another year of amazing music from Maisie Peters.

‘Body Better’ is out now via Gingerbread Man Records/Warner Music. You can download and stream here.
