American singer-songwriter Faye Webster today releases her new single and video ‘A Dream With A Baseball Player’ ahead of the release of her fourth album tomorrow I Know I’m Funny, haha.

The song is the fifth and final single to be released from the album and is the oldest song on the album. An incredibly smooth, sensual indie-pop track that simply purrs along with dreamy vocals, a slinky beat and bursts of sax it is an ode to Webster’s one-time teenage crush on Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr.—who she met when she was invited to sing at a Braves game in 2019.

“Off tour I spent so much of my time watching baseball that I thought I wanted to be a baseball player,” Webster explains. “But I’m not, so I guess the next best thing was having a crush on one. I guess this song explains what having a crush feels like. Having made up conversations with them in your head even though you don't speak their language, wearing their team jersey every day, things that make you feel closer to this person that you don’t know at all. But I sang at the Braves game, and they let us meet so I think I got that one out of my system.”

Following on from the release of the single, Webster launches her fourth studio album tomorrow, June 25, I Know I’m Funny, haha. Recording for the album started before the coronavirus pandemic, but when lockdown arrived Webster had to switch up her usual song-by-song studio approach. Initially trying to complete the album with her band in a COVID-safe two week recording session, she abandoned the idea and ended up recording her vocals at home on Garageband. “I did the rest of the vocals in my bedroom, which is what I’ve done and what I’m used to, and what I prefer,” she says.

While I Know I’m Funny, haha treads a similar indie-folk-pop sonic path to her last album, 2019’s Atlanta Millionaire Club, this time around Webster is more confident and brighter. “This record is coming from a less lonely place,” Webster says. “When I wrote Atlanta Millionaire Club, I was living by myself and on some don’t-know-what-to-do-with-my-own-time type shit. But now I’m living with my partner; I’m happy most of the time. I’m in such a different place. These songs aren’t necessarily happier, but it’s a different vibe.”

Developing and growing as a human, as well as in her music, is important to Webster who says with I Know I’m Funny, haha she is pushing herself to learn more and to be more vulnerable. “Growth is really important to me,” she says. “I hope people will relate to my songs, and not just be like ‘this is a good record’ but ‘this makes me feel something. This is making me think differently, this is making me question things.’ I told myself a few years ago that I was going to be more honest in my songwriting, that honesty is the best route to take with music. If I have a voice and people are listening to me, I’m not going to waste it.”
