Dami Im releases new single 'Pray' and announces sixth studio album 'My Reality'

Australian favourite Dami Im has released new single ‘Pray’. It it the third single from Im since she signed with new label ABC Music, following ‘Paper Dragon’ and ‘Lonely Cactus’, launching a new musical era in her impressive career.

‘Pray’ is an uplifting pop ballad which grows in power as the song progresses, featuring elements of gospel, piano and rock with an underlining electro beat. With empowering lyrics urging us to take time away from the stress of everyday life to recharge and repair, Im says the song was born from her own struggles. “The day we wrote it I felt pretty crappy and I know a lot of people are in hopeless situations, we wanted to go deep and write something to express that,” she says. “In the past I've steered away from that type of vibe in my songs, cheering people up. Sometimes it can sound corny and maybe that's what people should think I sing about, whatever they associate Dami Im with. I played ‘Pray’ to the people around me, even the non-religious people loved it and felt something, they connected with it. That was a good sign.”

The single is from Im’s upcoming sixth studio album My Reality which will be released on October 29. Im worked with a number of top-tier collaborators on the album including One Above (Hilltop Hoods, Illy), Andy Mak (Vera Blue, Tina Arena) and Konstantin Kersting (Tones And I, Spacey Jane) and says it pushed her creativity and voice into areas she wouldn’t normal go. “On this album I really enjoyed working with people whose work is different to what I normally do, and it makes you think about things differently,” she says. “A few years ago I wasn’t mature enough to steer my albums the way I wanted them to go. This is the dream album, it took a while but I’m so proud of it. This album is about owning who I am. You shouldn’t shy away from the things people like about you. But you are who you are. Some parts on this record people might expect, some others show how much I’ve changed. With this album I’m just trying to be authentic in the way I know it, that’s my reality.”

One of Australia’s most gifted and beloved singers, after moving labels to gain more control over her artistic output My Reality looks set to be Im’s greatest collection of music since she first broke through after winning The X Factor in 2013. With the preceding singles displaying immense warmth, depth, soul and sheer musical brilliance, this new era of Dami Im is one to get seriously excited about.
