Rising superstar Carla Wehbe today returns with her new single ‘Hurts To Love You’ which marks her first release since signing a major label record deal with Warner Music.
Created with Norwegian songwriters Jim Bergsted and Helge Moemthat, the song is a glorious pop track which switches between gentle, shimmering verses and a beat heavy chorus. Running through the uplifting sonics is a thread of melancholy as the lyrics describe the pain and sense of loss at the end of a relationship. Like everything Wehbe does, there is a delicious throw-back feel to the song with 80s style synths, while still remaining completely contemporary.
“It’s about losing someone that you care deeply about,” says Carla of the track’s origins. “You love them so much that it hurts too much to be close to them, so you have to separate yourself. And you realise that all the things you spoke about doing, or planned to do, aren’t going to happen anymore and you’re just going to have to live with that."
Also released today is the music video for ‘Hurts To Love You’, which Wehbe co-directed and co-edited with Murli Dhir, showcasing another of her multiple talents.
Wehbe has been involved in music since she was a teenager and launched her career in 2019 with the single ‘Touched’, a collaboration with Tyron Hapi and Roy Bing which has accumulated close to 7 million streams on Spotify alone. At the beginning of last year she independently released her debut solo single ‘Don’t Tell Me’, one of Women In Pop’s top 10 tracks of 2020, and in October released the critically acclaimed EP Half Past Nine.
An artist, in demand songwriter, videographer, producer, photographer and fashion designer, Wehbe is truly one of the most remarkable young artists to emerge in Australia in the last two years. She has everything it takes to be a global superstar and this new era in her career promises to be her most exciting yet. Her music is an absolute joy to experience and we recommend you tune into her right now.
