Rising new star Kings Elliot releases new single 'Butterfly Pen' and announces new EP 'Bored Of The Circus' will be out September 16
Swiss born London based singer-songwriter Kings Elliot is building a reputation as one of the most promising alt-pop artists in music today with her brutally raw but equally beautiful songs that chronicle her struggles with mental health. Today she releases her new single ‘Butterfly Pen’ and announces her second EP Bored of the Circus will be released on September 16.
Like everything Elliot does, ‘Butterfly Pen’ is a gorgeous pop ballad that wraps around your soul. With piano and lush, soaring instrumentation, Elliot’s vulnerable vocals tell a story of falling into an emotional hole after a relationship disintegrates: ’I lay in my sheets watching shows I hate on repeat…don’t get me wrong though / I used to enjoy them with you’.
“The song I've had the longest is 'Butterfly Pen.' I was in a really bad place when I wrote it, but I knew that it wasn't going to come out for a while. Now is the time for it,” she says. “The 'butterfly pen' is a metaphor for innocence or naïvété - how you view the world before your first heartbreak, or the divorce of your parents. Once you’ve been hurt like that you can still acknowledge beauty, but you don't enjoy anything in the same way.”
Kins Elliot will release her second EP Bored of the Circus on September 16. Featuring five tracks, including recent single ‘‘Til I Die’, it follows up her 2021 debut EP Chaos In My Court which accumulated streams in the millions and earned her a Best New Artist nomination at the 2022 Swiss Music Award.
The EP takes inspiration from the music of the past, evoking the feeling of old vinyl records while still remaining very much the sound of pop music today. With her ability to create beautifully immersive and relatable music, the EP is destined to be something to cherish.
To cap off a huge 2022, Kings Elliot will be launching a US stadium tour this Friday, supporting Imagine Dragon. The tour will last over a month and will also see her play headline shows in New York, Texas and Los Angeles.
