Ricki-Lee returns with new single 'Last Night'

Australian pop legend Ricki-Lee today releases her first new music in two years in the form of single ‘Last Night’. A sensuous, low key banger with a pulsing bassline reminiscent of 70s funk married with a multi-layered cascade of electronic beats, the track takes a number of delicious sonic twists and turns that keep you addicted to the very end. After the powerful 2017 ballad ‘Not Too Late’ and 2018’s stripped back ‘Unbothered’, ‘Last Night’ is a return to Ricki’s dancefloor roots, a vibe she says she was inspired to move back to by her fans. “When I toured last year, it reminded me how much my fans love me for uplifting, feel-good music they can dance to,” she says. “I played the State Theatre in Sydney, which is usually filled with quite a conservative crowd, but after the show they told me they had never seen a crowd jumping up and down and singing like that! And it made me realise I’ve gotta give the fans what they want, what they love!”

While this is the first new music from Ricki-Lee since 2018, she has been far from quiet. Last year she hosted the successful relaunch of Australia’s Got Talent and also embarked on a sell-out tour of Australia which combined both a greatest hits celebration of her 15th anniversary in the music industry and songs from the movie A Star Is Born. This year she was due to film the next series of Australia’s Got Talent before the coronavirus pandemic stepped in, and while isolation took so much away, for Ricki it also gave her the opportunity to focus on her music, which in many ways is entirely appropriate given ‘Last Night’ is about finding someone you want to spend every waking moment with. “Like so many others, everything we had lined up for the year literally just disappeared,” Ricki explains. “But in all honesty, having this down time with no live shows and the filming of Australia’s Got Talent being pushed back, I all of a sudden had all this free time on my hands, which gave me the opportunity to switch focus and finish this song, which I feel like is a blessing in disguise. I thought I’d use this time to not only be productive, but to put some feel good music out there into the world.”

Ricki also spent her time in isolation producing a number of online videos for her fans, including a Leg & Booty home workout and a dance tutorial series for her massive hit ‘Can’t Touch This’. The videos have proved to be a runaway success with over 66 million combined views.

Ricki-Lee has always been Australia’s go-to singer for feel good, have fun, classically good and thoroughly addictive pop music and with the release of ‘Last Night’ she has nailed it yet again. As we slowly emerge from isolation, put this on, blast it out of the speakers and finally feel free again.
