PREMIERE: Amaya Laucirica's new single 'Road To Us', the second taste from upcoming album 'The Blue Hour'

Naarm/Melbourne based artist Amaya Laucirica will release her new single ‘Road To Us’ tomorrow, but today you can watch the video right here as it premieres exclusively on Women In Pop.

The follow up to March’s ‘Now or Never’, ‘Road To Us’ is another deeply personal exploration of love and relationships and how they can change over time. Opening with a staccato electronic beat, the songs moves into a gorgeously warm pop-synth soundscape that expertly captures the love, but also the melancholy and emotional complexity of the situation:. ‘Where is the road to us? / And where are we this time? / And when is enough enough?’

“In a similar vein to ‘Now or Never,’ this song examines a couple’s journey together,” Laucirica says. “They’ve travelled, shared music, and now their lives have changed. The momentum has shifted, and they’re left questioning, ‘Where is the road to us?’”

The music video, shot by Adalita and edited by Geoffrey O’Connor at Vanity Lair Studio, reflects the searching aspect of the lyrics, with Laucirica in a car driving through the streets of Melbourne and walking along a deserted beach.

“It was shot at various locations in Victoria. The car scenes were filmed driving around Melbourne driving over the William Bolte Bridge, the CBD, St Kilda Road and driving from Port Melbourne to St Kilda. The beach scenes were shot at Cape Paterson in Victoria,” Laucirica reveals. “I wanted the film clip to capture the intimacy and reflective nature of the song. I also wanted to be able to capture a sense of travel as the song reminisces about being on a journey.”

”Even though the chorus is still reflective, it’s also a celebration of a life travelled thus far,” she continues. “I could sense some golden/silvery tones when I visualised this part of the song. The idea was to capture the beautiful light of golden hour at a beach at sunset. A bit of shimmer, a bit of light, a bit of hope. As golden hour only lasts for 20-30 minutes, we only had a limited time to work with when shooting the beach scenes for the clip.”

Both ‘Road To Us’ and ‘Now or Never’ will feature on Laucirica’s new album album The Blue Hour, due for release later this year. It will be her first album since 2018’s Rituals.

With her gentle, ethereal vocals and soundscapes that are like a massive audio hug, Laucirica is a truly mesmerising artist that never fails to get you in the feels. ‘Road To Us’ is sure to be your new favourite song, tune in to it now below before its general release tomorrow.

‘Road To Us’ will be released on 27 May. You can pre-save here now.
