Pop duo Gelato launch with debut single 'Giving it up'

Australian pop duo Gelato - comprising of acclaimed singer Sayah and producer James Baldwin - have arrived on the music scene with the release of their debut single ‘Giving it up’.

Inspired by the likes of Dua Lipa, Banks and Odesza, ‘Giving it up’ starts off with distorted vocals and a stripped back, house-y beat before bringing in delicious synthpop and electro vibes in the chorus. Sayah’s majestic vocals are as powerful as ever, effortlessly swinging from a higher register to an earthy, hypnotic drawl. Lyrically the song explores a situation where an attraction is so overpowering you cannot do anything but surrender to your crush, even if you try to fight it.

“I was falling for someone much to my dismay. I'd been really let down with relationships in the past so I was hesitant to let someone else in, until I couldn't help myself but let them,” Gelato says.

Sayah is one of the most in demand singers in Australia, touring as lead vocalist with bands such as Cosmo’s Midnight, Peking Duk and Set Mo. She has also sung with superstars Rita Ora and Dua Lipa and appeared as the featured vocalist on tracks for esteemed local artists including KLP and Just A Gent. For Gelato, Sayah has paired with producer James Baldwin, who has produced for artists such as Maina Doe, Charbel, Anieszka and Yawdoesitall, as well as performing with Boomchild.

With their combined expertise in pop, Gelato have hit the ground running and on the strength of just one single are proving they can create just incredible pop music. A group to watch very closely, their future releases are going to be something to look forward to and Gelato are sure to become your favourite new band.
