Pop superstar Kylie Minogue returns today with the release of her new single ‘Padam Padam’, the first taste of her new album Tension, which is due to be released on 22 September.

Produced by Lostboy (Griff, Anne-Marie, Tiesto), ‘Padam Padam’ is a thumping, electronic pop track with splashes of deep house that instantly transports you to a dark nightclub dance floor. Lyrically, it is a sensual recount of the magnetic moment when two people are drawn to each other. “I know you want to take me home / And take off all my clothes,” Minogue sings.

‘Padam Padam’ will feature on Minogue’s sixteenth studio album, released on September 22, which will feature dancefloor bangers and the pure pop delights Minogue has become famous for.

“I started this album with an open mind and a blank page,” she says. “Unlike my last two albums there wasn’t a ‘theme’, it was about finding the heart or the fun or the fantasy of that moment and always trying to service the song.  I wanted to celebrate each song’s individuality and to dive into that freedom. I would say it’s a blend of personal reflection, club abandon and melancholic high.”

Tension sees Minogue work with a number of different producers, as well as being reunited with her long-time collaborators, Biff Stannard and Duck Blackwell who produced and co-wrote seven of the album’s tracks.

“I loved being back in the studio with my collaborators but was also able to benefit from  remote recording, which we have all got used to – my mobile studio never left my side for a year and a half!” Minogue says of the creative process. “The album is a mix of songs I have written and songs which really spoke to me. Making this album helped me navigate challenging times and celebrate the now. I hope it accompanies listeners on their own journeys and becomes part of their story.”

New music from Minogue is always a delicious event and ‘Padam Padam’ doesn't disappoint. With Tension still to come, the latter half of 2023 is going to all about Kylie and we are here for it.
