Singer-songwriter, Broadway, movie and Tony award winning legend Idina Menzel today launches a whole new era in her music, moving into dance pop with the single ‘Move’ from her upcoming album Drama Queen.

Produced by Chantry Johnson and Mitch Allan, ‘Move’ sees Menzel dive fully into electronic pop with a heavy dose of disco and funk. About being your authentic self and not letting someone else get in your way or steal the spotlight from you, Menzel’s incomparable vocal is paired with an undeniable beat that will drag you straight onto the dancefloor.

The single is the first taste of her seventh studio album Drama Queen, due for release on August 18. A departure from her previous work, it features soaring anthems and disco-infused beats with Menzel teaming up with a string of high profile hitmakers including Nile Rodgers, Jake Shears, Justin Tranter, Chelcee Grimes, and Laura Veltz amongst others.

“I am a Drama Queen…I’m dramatic and emotional and passionate,” Menzel says. “I love the stage and the spotlight. I love the attention and the roar of an audience. I have big feelings. I sing my ass off through tears of joy, heartbreak, anger, and sadness. This project is the most fun I’ve ever had writing and recording an album. I want everyone to move and sing with me and embrace their inner Drama Queen. I’m so thrilled that the first single, ‘Move’ is coming in time for Pride Month. It’s a celebration of love in all its forms. The LGBTQIA+ community has always been so inspiring to me—watching friends and fans live so courageously, so authentically.”

Menzel has become an hugely successful theatre and film performer after first coming to attention in the 1996 Broadway production of Rent. She released her first solo album in 1998 and won a Tony Award for her work in the 2003 stage musical Wicked. She shot to global superstardom as the voice of Elsa in the 2014 animated music Frozen with the single ‘Let It Go’ becoming a global hit. Her last studio pop album Idina was released in 2016 and peaked in the top 30 on the US Billboard 200 album chart.

With the release of ‘Move’, Menzel is starting an exciting new chapter in her career. Full of joy, power and mesmerising beats, Drama Queen is destined to be a career highlight for Menzel and quite probably one of your favourite pop albums of the year. Until its release in August, bliss out to ‘Move’ as it dances you into your weekend.
