Greta Stanley releases 1980s inspired single 'Red Earth Dirt' and announces sophomore album 'Real Love In Real Life' will be released in April.

Cairns based Greta Stanley today releases her new single ‘Red Earth Dirt’, alongside the atmospheric music video and the confirmation she will release her sophomore album Real Love In Real Life on 29 April, with a limited edition pink vinyl version available for pre-order now.

‘Red Earth Dirt’ sees Stanley explore a whole new sound with the song heavily dipping into 1980s synth and electronica. With the lyrics covering everything from UFOs to love and family, it’s moody verses gradually build into a chorus with some of the most perfect synth beats you are likely to hear this side of 1984 with Stanley’s hypnotic voice delivering the most delicious melodies.

“This song is about a lot of things - aliens, UFOs, love, family, the future, bad driving, my dog,” Stanley says. “Ultimately, I was inspired to write it thinking about the life I want, which is the life my parents have. They live in a quiet little green place, with creeks nearby, red dirt hills, peace and serenity all around and have just what they need to be happy. It's a song that reminds me of home but is also about a fear of the unknown - the relationships I have and weaving moments of my life that are small but feel so significant.”

The music video for ‘Red Earth Dirt’ is also released today, filmed in Cairns and directed by acclaimed fashion photographer and videographer Saskia Hilton.

“We wanted to do a bit of an 80s alien encounter theme, and I think we nailed it,” Stanley says. There’re a few lines in the song that reference UFO/alien searching/sightings. My boyfriend Bronson is super into looking up and knowing about that stuff. I'm a believer, but if they ever did hit Earth I definitely wouldn't want to be part of the experience, whereas he's all for it. In fact, I think he’s hoping it happens. We'd been watching a lot of The X-Files, and old alien movies so the film clip theme was inspired by that, but also Saskia just has such a good eye and strong vision to take this small reference and make it into something larger.. I got a few stares when I stopped for snacks at the corner store in my sparkly get-up, ha ha!”

As an extra bonus, Stanley announces today her sophomore album Real Love In Real Life will be released on 29 April. An album of ‘love, joy and optimism combined with reality, realisation and honesty’, it continues Stanley’s sonic exploration, moving from the indie-folk she started her career with into electronica, R&B, rock, pop and hip hop. Stanley is currently working on plans to tour Real Love In Real Life with dates to be announced soon.

Stanley is an artist who has shown so much talent and promise since she first emerged on the music scene last decade. Her music has continue to grow and evolve over the last few years and there is a sense her latest releases are her most accomplished and confident to date. Real Love In Real Life promises to be a highlight when it is released in April. For now, enjoy ‘Red Earth Dirt’ below.
