Ea Kaya releases new single 'Cruel To Be Kind'

Denmark’s Ea Kaya (real name Christine Kiberg) today releases new single ‘Cruel To Be Kind’, her first new music since the release of her debut EP Fragile But Strong As Hell in January.

With her debut EP one of 2019 highlights, ‘Cruel To Be Kind’ builds on Kiberg’s remarkable ability to create brilliantly catchy pop with typically forthright lyrics. “It’s up to you, keep wasting your hours and years / Smoke it away…I’ve gotta say something to you you won’t like / Gotta be cruel to be kind” she sings, with her powerhouse vocals soaring over a dreamy, understated synthpop background. The track is based on a situation Kiberg found herself in with a close friend. “They were drowning in frustration, feeling like nothing was going right at the time and so desperately tried to find a way to forget his reality,” she says. “It was awful to watch, because he’s a gifted person who didn’t cultivate any of his abilities, but also because his unhappiness lead to anger that affected his family. His self-pity blinded him to the fact that he was the only one who could actively change his situation and mindset.”

With over 8 million streams across all platforms and appearances at major festivals over the next few months, including at Roskilde, Kiberg is slowly but surely proving herself one of the most exciting and talented new artists emerging not only from Denmark, but the pop music scene itself.

‘Cruel To Be Kind’ is out now on Central Station Records. Buy or stream here
