Australia’s D’Arcy Spiller creates music that is simply magical - earthy, primal, raw and with the ability to connect deeply with your soul. Mixing blues, soul, rock and pop, she has been releasing music since 2019 and scored major success last year with her single ‘Wolf Blood’ which is currently at 730k streams on Spotify alone and was the sixth most played song on Triple J last year.

Today she returns with the release of new single ‘Crave’, her first new music of 2022. It is a big, intense track with a rock-pop feel infused with blues and gospel alongside a stunning vocal performance from Spiller, full of passion and meaning with some sublime moments of huskiness. Lyrically it is a reflection on life post-pandemic and the desire to change habits and live a life full of rich experiences, as well as reflecting Spiller’s interest and hyper-awareness of the spiritual and non-physical world around her

“All I knew was that I wanted to sing something intense and express my longing for something bigger and deeper and soul shivering,” she says of the song. “On this project, I just want people to experience my world, which is not even necessarily the spiritual world. It’s just about allowing yourself to open up your mind and not be afraid of the weirder shit.”

Also released today is the music video for ‘Crave’. Directed by Ollie Ritchie and filmed in swampland and caves at Irrawong Reserve (Sydney), the video reflects the spiritual feel of the song and represents Spiller morphing into both physical and metaphysical aspects of her inner self as she struggles with alternate versions of who she is, and who she is becoming. On her face she wears the alchemical symbol for sulphur which she says “represents the male counterpart to Mercury’s female representation, of evaporation, expansion and the soul“.

‘Crave’ is the beginning of a new era for Spiller as she becomes a freer, more assured artist, confident in who she is and open to exploring every facets of herself and her world - and beyond - through her music. It is an absolutely invigorating song and augurs well for her upcoming project. Dive in now.

‘Crave’ is out now via 100s + 1000s. You can download and stream here.
