APRA AMCOS have launched the 2025 edition of EQUALIZE, the nationwide free workshops for women and gender diverse musicians.

With workshops held in all eight capital cities throughout September and October, the free one day events will focus on songwriting and live audio skills. Topics covered include how to set up and mic equipment for the stage and use live mixing desks, and compositional tips and methods, all conveyed by some of Australia’s most skilled artists and experts including Abby Wallace, Alex Hosking, Dana Gehrman, Merpire, Nell Forster and Romy Vager.

“In recent years, I’ve witnessed a gradual increase in gender diversity within music tech,” says Forster who will be mentoring at the Brisbane session. “There is no logical reason for this to remain a male-dominated field, and I urge anyone outside that majority with an interest in sound to pursue it. Slowly but surely, positive change is taking place.”

All sessions will be hands on and are open to all women and gender diverse APRA AMCOS music creators regardless of skill levels or experience. Registration is open now here.

APRA AMCOS is a music rights management organisation that distributes royalties to Australian and New Zealand creators whenever their music is played domestically or internationally. They are active in heightening awareness of women in music but also running practical programs to give female and gender diverse music creators the tools to succeed, with EQUALIZE joining their 23% Mentorship program that pairs female and gender diverse creators with music professionals to provide mentorship on both the creative and the business side of music.

“At APRA AMCOS, we’re well aware of the gender disparity in music and the difficulties many face trying to succeed in this challenging industry,” Karen Don, Head of Membership at APRA AMCOS says. “We hope that events, such as this, go some way in helping to redress the imbalance, giving women and gender diverse music makers an empowering space to learn, create and thrive together.”
